Hello, I'm Shannon

I earned my Master's Degree from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work, focusing on clinical practice with adults. I hold a BA in Anthropology from Barnard College of Columbia University.

While living in New York, I trained in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy for two years with the founders of Pulsion – The International Institute of Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychosomatics on the Upper West Side. In San Diego, to complement my traditional insight-based therapy foundation, I trained formally for another two years in Gottman Method Couples Therapy with Gottman Institute liaison Dr. Dana McNeil. I weave together these methods with current research on neurobiology and holistic care, tailoring the experience to your needs.

My counseling strengths include genuine curiosity and passion for learning about ways of life. A longtime student of culture and relationships, I've lived and worked in Dakar, Senegal; Sint Maarten; Macao, China; and Denver, Colorado. New York City was my home for 15 years before relocating to San Diego. I understand big decisions, life transitions, and adapting to new environments. Having studied social justice politics and worked with clients of many gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, and ethnic identities, I'm conscientious about how larger systems and social inequity can affect a family’s health and functioning.
